Alkanet Root

Alkanet Root is native to the Mediterranean region and has been used for centuries around the world as a natural dye and herbal medicine. This plant has been used for migraines, stomach ulcers, rashes and wounds.

There is an old theory that it was used as part of witchcraft rituals in ancient times and that witches from the past were actually just herbalists. These herbalists were then demonised at the time by religious leaders creating the stories we all know today involving cauldron-bubbling cackling women. 

Matcha Powder/Green Tea

Green Tea originates from China and is still widely used all around the world, the powder form is most popular in Japan. The tea contains powerful antioxidants that help fight free radicals on the skin so can reduce and protect against UV exposure. Green tea is known to be anti-ageing and anti inflammatory helping to reduce redness.

Turmeric Powder

Turmeric powder is a plant native to the Indian subcontinent and southeast Asia. Turmeric powder is thought to have anti ageing, antioxidant and antibacterial properties and has been used in traditional Indian and Chinese medicines, cuisines and rituals since ancient times. 

Activated Charcoal

Activated Charcoal goes back a long way with the ancient Egyptian's first documenting it for its use in medicine and melting bronze. Activated Charcoal draws the bacteria, chemicals and dirt to the surface of the skin and cleanses the pores. It can also be used for minor skin ailments such as cuts and insect bites.

Thai Blue Flower (Butterfly Pea) 

Thai blue flower is native to Thailand and areas of southeast Asia. This flower has many uses and is typically used in cocktail drinks to give a blue/purple colour. On the skin it is found to be revitalising, anti ageing, antioxidant and helps with skin elasticity. It is also known to help with blood circulation and hair loss.

Lavender Essential Oil

Lavender oil is believed to be from the Mediterranean, Middle East and India. Lavender has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties and is known to moisturise and soothe the skin. The scent of lavender is commonly used for therapeutic purposes.

Peppermint Essential Oil

Peppermint is indigenous to Europe and the Middle East but is now cultivated everywhere. It has cooling and smoothing abilities and promotes blood flow so it can liven up the skin leaving skin looking hydrated and fresh. it is known to balance out natural oils and can help with acne prone skin. Peppermint oil has been used in Europe and Asian medicine for centuries for its health, skin and hair benefits. 

Lemon Essential Oil

Lemon oil can lighten and rejuvenate the skin. It is also antiseptic. Lemon has a refreshing scent and it used as a detoxifier both externally and internally.

Orange Essential Oil

Orange oil has the ability to increase blood flow, collagen and absorb vitamin C which all helps towards anti ageing.

Lime Essential Oil

Lime oil has antibiotic, antioxidant and disinfectant properties. Lime refreshes and rejuvenate the skin. When applied to hair it is known to aid hair growth due to it's vitamin C content, and in some cases can treat dandruff and absorb excess oil. Lime also naturally lightens skin and hair. 

Tea Tree Essential Oil

Tea tree oil is found in the leaves of a tree native to Australia. This oil is probably the most recognised ingredient for the skin benefits due to its anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. This oil is known to reduce redness and treat acne. In some cases the oil has helped reduce acne scars.

Olive Oil

Olive oil is from a traditional tree found in the Mediterranean basin. This oil is known for having antioxidants that fights against free radicals on the skin. It also contains the fat soluble vitamins A,K,D and E.  

Jojoba Oil

Jojoba oil is a plant native to southern Arizona, southern California and northwestern Mexico. Jojoba has anti-inflammatory properties that help to calm redness. This plant has vitamin E and vitamin b-complex which aid in skin repair and damage control. The Native Americans used this plant to treat sores and wounds.

Argan Oil

Argan oil is derived from kernels found in a tree species in Morocco. When applied to skin it is known to hydrate, moisten and smooth out the skin, this is due to its high vitamin E content.

Honey

Honey has been used for at least 8,000 years for many different purposes from medicine to sacred offerings. Honey has antibacterial properties which can help with acne prone skin, and is full of antioxidants which can leave skin with a nice healthy glow.

 

Loofah

The loofah plant (also spelt luffa) is a popular vegetable in China, India and Vietnam. Once harvested and peeled they become fibrous sponges that help exfoliate the skin and improve circulation.
