Soap vs Shampoo

Updated: Nov 23, 2020

Historically, soap bars have been used as a shampoo. if you are thinking about using soap bars for your hair, then there are some important notes to consider.

Naturally your scalp produces oil (sebum), This is a coating to protect your hair.

most liquid hair products contain sulphates or harsh chemicals that strip this oil out of your hair and also contain silicones which is what makes your hair feel soft after using these products.

when using natural products your hair will start to regulate its natural sebum secretion which may leave you with oily/greasy hair at first. shampoo bars have only a few more moisturising properties than soap.

What to expect after using a shampoo bar:

the shampoo bar may make your hair feel a bit hard, but this is normal and it will soften as it dries.

if you have bleached or damaged hair, then you will most likely need an additional conditioner or hair treatment (there are lots of natural home remedies online).

depending on where you live will also differ on your water quality. this is separated into two different types, hard water and soft water. this will influence the lathering of the shampoo bar.

remember, it is not the lather or bubbles that clean so you do not need to apply a lot.

lather was put into products in the 50's to make them more appealing to the consumer. make sure the lather is rinsed out thoroughly.
